CoGo Bike Share
CoGo Bike Share is here!
Located across Mount Vernon Avenue from the Bookstore, the station features bikes that can be rented for short trips. A $6 day pass allows for unlimited trips, or residents can buy a $75 yearly membership. (Bikes must be checked into a kiosk every 30 minutes – the system is designed for short trips so bikes stay in circulation.) There's a $3 fee for keeping a bike longer than 30 minutes, and a $1,200 fine for losing one.
The system is run through a public-private partnership between the city and Alta Bicycle Share, which runs similar programs in eight U.S. cities and Melbourne, Australia. Portland, Ore.-based Alta has seven employees in Columbus to oversee CoGo.
CoGo Bikes are convenient for students and faculty who want to take a short trip for lunch, to run an errand, or to go to an exercise class downtown. The kiosk holds up to 10 bikes and opened in July 2013.
