Sometimes, you need the most basic skills to make life better. And, you need a little help to take that first step. The Skill Development Center/Transitional Workforce Department at Columbus State is here to help you.

Our programs help anyone transitioning into the workforce, whether they’re right out of high school or returning to work. Our programs help you get your foot in the door and prepare you for a rewarding career of which you can be proud.

We have three departments:
Academic Enrichment (GED): Our trained faculty helps you prepare for the GED, an important step in your success. Many programs allow you to take the GED prep course at no cost.

Language Institute/Basic English: The institute offers basic English to current residents, recent immigrants and refugees. Get the language skills you need to succeed in the U.S.

OTAP (Orientation to Trades and Apprenticeships): OTAP prepares you for an apprenticeship or a job in skilled trades such as construction, electrician and plumbing. If you decide not to enter an apprenticeship, the skills you learn help you in any job.

Other Programs:
