ESL Afterschool Communities
Who we are
ESL Afterschool Communities is an outreach initiative in the Center for Workforce Development that joins Columbus State Community College with the city’s refugee and immigrant communities. ESL Afterschool Communities offers community-based, comprehensive afterschool programs at three sites within Franklin County. In a safe, caring environment children develop academic, social and personal skills that will last a lifetime.
An underlying theme of the program is leadership—constantly teaching and reinforcing lessons in good judgment and decision-making. ESL Afterschool Communities are unique in that sites are located within the apartment complexes where most participating students reside, eliminating transportation challenges. This also allows for more parent, family and community interaction and engagement.
