We look forward to continued success in the future." "There's still a lot of work to be done," said Jim Spencer, Physical Plant assistant director. "But it's exciting to be part of a team working together for the common good." SBDC at Columbus State presents panel discussion on venture capital tips and trends
Ralph Taylor-Smith, Battelle Ventures, L.P.; Curtis Crocker, Reservoir Venture Partners; Eric Von Hendrix, MWV Pinnacle Capital Fund, L.P.; and Dan Fleming, River Cities Capital Funds, will discuss topics such as: where today's venture capitalists are putting their money, whether the life sciences sector will continue to dominate, what other sectors will attract funding, and what sectors are seeing over-investment. The Columbus Dealflow Exchange provides an independent forum where business leaders exchange ideas, opinions and viewpoints. Collaborators and competitors meet with authoritative moderators, and people attending can ask questions directly to panelists. Cost for the seminar is $20, and registration ends November 25. Columbus State employees participating in the 15th annual Make a Difference Day October 22 helped members of the community with writing skills, literacy and automotive maintenance. Youth and Adult Automotive Training Center (YAATC) students taught basic car maintenance and repair to 35 community members. Sponsored by Napa Auto Parts and Matco Tools, the workshop included information on how to avoid automotive rip-offs and how to jumpstart a vehicle.

Volunteers needed for First Lego League competition
Your help is needed to make the event as successful as it has been for the past three years. On November 19, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m . , the college will host 400 middle school students and their families and teachers for a hands-on learning competition. The offices of K-12 Initiatives and Engineering Technologies need fun, energetic, enthusiastic students, staff, faculty, administrators and friends of Columbus State to help with the event. In this year's competition, First Lego League teams from around the world must find solutions that will sustain the health, biodiversity, and productivity of the world's oceans for present and future generations. E ach team must build and program a Lego robot that addresses the "Ocean Odyssey" missions of: deploying a submarine; conducting transect mapping; protecting a pump station; servicing a pipeline; sampling one species from among others; releasing a dolphin; deciding about an artificial reef; cleaning up a cargo shipping accident; and finding and recovering archaeological artifacts. Additionally, they will choose an ocean or sea activity or resource and trace its impact on our oceans' health, biodiversity, and productivity. Their project challenge is to create an innovative solution to help them improve the use of this resource or activity, while minimizing the negative impact on our oceans for present and future generations. UNICEF and Columbus Sister Cities seek volunteers for International Festival
The festival runs November 4, 6-10 p.m.; November 5, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; and November 6, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at Veterans Memorial Hall, 300 West Broad Street. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, $2 for children 6-12 years old, and free for children 5 years old and younger. Group tickets are $4 and are available by calling 614-487-1300. During the festival, local UNICEF representative Peg Zidonis is looking for volunteers to help collect donations and distribute information at the UNICEF booth. Volunteers are needed for three-hour shifts November 5, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and November 6, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tickets to the festival will be provided and can be picked up at the will call desk. If you're interested, contact Peg Zidonis at 614-457-3135. Also looking for volunteers is Columbus Sister Cities International. People are needed to share information about Columbus' sister cities and the mission of the organization. A panel of Ohio venture capitalists will examine the venture landscape and future at the Columbus Dealflow Exchange, Tuesday, November 29, 11:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at the Business Technology Center, 1275 Kinnear Road. The event is hosted by the Small Business Development Center at Columbus State. 
It's that time of year again when Columbus State is preparing to host the Columbus Regional First Lego League event. 
Celebrating its 50 th anniversary this weekend, the Columbus International Festival will host 150 exhibitors representing 80 countries through a global marketplace of international cuisine and unique crafts, a health fair, global activities, continuous entertainment, a celebrity variety show and a parade of nations.
