Chatting with a Major General
Students chat with Major General Deborah Ashenhurst after her speech about the history of women in the military, given March 29 in honor of Women’s History Month. Maj. Gen. Ashenhurst is the first female Adjutant General in Ohio, and she gave credit to those women who had come before her to pave the way despite the many challenges for women in the military. Ashenhurst commands the Ohio National Guard, which includes the Ohio Army National Guard, Ohio Air National Guard, Ohio Military Reserve and the Ohio Naval Militia. You can listen to a story on her visit from WOSU Radio’s NPR News here.

Complete the “Great Colleges To Work For” survey
We are at the mid-point in the survey window for the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges To Work For survey. On March 17, 600 randomly selected employees received an email from “email@example.com” with the subject line “The Chronicle's Great Colleges to Work For 2013 Faculty/Staff Survey.” These employees should have received a reminder email from ModernThink with same subject.
If you received this invitation please complete the survey. Columbus State is participating in this study to assess our workplace quality, culture and satisfaction. Your voluntary participation and honest feedback are critical to obtaining a full and accurate assessment. Our institution will not be given any information that would enable us to trace survey data back to any one individual.
The survey window closes on April 14 so don’t delay!
You can still sign up to attend the April 3 session of “Introduction to Hostmanship: Customer Service and Leadership reframed,” offered from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in WD 415.
In his book Hostmanship, hospitality industry veteran Jan Gunnarsson challenges individuals to reframe their views of customer service and leadership. At its core, Hostmanship invites us to rethink the customer service experience seeing ourselves as connected to the customer as host. This shift transforms the interaction, creating a welcoming attitude where we are able to share ourselves and our knowledge with our guests in every interaction.
In this introduction to Hostmanship, we will discuss its foundation and principles as well as its application for personal and professional growth. Register here: http://web.cscc.edu/is/employeetraining/register.asp?C=433&D=2922
