Faculty Fellows Join Assessment team
Professors Lisa Cerrato, Health Information Management, and Adam Moskowitz, Social Sciences, have been named by the Office of Academic Affairs as the faculty fellows for Assessment. They will facilitate the work being done by the Assessment Committee and provide the coordinating link between the Divisions, Academic Affairs, and the soon-to-begin committee to review the college's general education outcomes.
“I am really excited about the faculty fellow model,” said Polly Owen, associate vice president of Academic Affairs. “There is a great opportunity here for faculty leadership.”
Assessment reporting is done annually by programs and departments to evaluate student achievement of the learning outcomes, and the effectiveness of improvement plans. Validation reports are completed every three years by career and technical programs to ensure that the outcomes meet current needs. “General education outcomes are also re-evaluated periodically,” said Adele Wright, Assessment Committee co-chair. “Plans are in the works to do this in the coming year.”
“We are all excited to review assessment at Columbus State and to think creatively about revising it,” said Judith Dann, Ph.D, Assessment Committee co-chair. “The Academic Affairs Assessment Committee is the perfect faculty-driven forum to do so, and Adam and Lisa will undoubtedly provide us with support and innovative ideas.”
Theater production runs through Saturday
Fall Semester production “The Underpants,” a Steve Martin play directed by D. Michael Ehret, will be performed by Theatre Columbus State today at 3:00 p.m., and at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday in the Nestor Hall Auditorium.
The renowned comic actor and author provides a wild satire adapted from the classic German play about Louise and Theo Markes, a couple whose conservative existence is shattered when Louise's bloomers fall down in public. Though she pulls them up quickly, he thinks the incident will cost him his job as a government clerk. Louise's momentary display does not result in the feared scandal but it does attract two infatuated men, each of whom wants to rent the spare room in the Markes' home. Oblivious of their amorous objectives, Theo splits the room between them, happy to collect rent from both the foppish poet and the whiny hypochondriac.

Combined Charitable Giving Campaign ends December 13
The last day to make your donation to Columbus State’s annual Charitable Giving Campaign is Thursday, December 13. To make your donation through one-time donation or by payroll deduction, go online to the Intranet, (only available on campus) and the first two links are the Pledge Form and the Giving Guide. To make your donation, simply print and fill out the Pledge Form and send to Barbara Smith-Allen, President’s Office, Franklin Hall.
Concert Band to hold holiday concert
The Columbus State Concert Band will present an informal concert of holiday music on Tuesday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the TL-123 music room. The performance will include holiday favorites such as "Parade of the Tin Soldiers," "Toyland," "O Chanukah," and "Jingle Bells Around the World." Electronic music concert offered Dec. 7
Rocco Di Pietro’s Fall Semester Electronic Music Class will perform on Friday, December 7 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fuse Factory Electronic and Digital Arts Lab, housed at Wild Goose Creative, 2491 Summit St., in Columbus. The series is called "Frequency Fridays,” a monthly performance series featuring visual and sound artists, musicians, and technologists “whose experimental work with diverse media investigates the migration of computing out of the desktop PC and into the physical world.” Di Pietro’s students will present original “Soundscapes” and “Aural Walks” they created this semester, and Di Pietro will perform his famous cell phone symphony piece!

Retirement sessions, webinars to be held starting Dec. 4
As announced in Monday’s Update, a representative from State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) of Ohio will hold an information session regarding STRS Ohio‘s Pension Reform Bill on Tuesday, December 4, at 1:00 p.m. in CT 107. Guest speaker to visit for World AIDS Week
Kathy Sellers, from the AIDS Resource Center of Ohio will speak during World AIDS Week on Tuesday, December 4, at 3:45 p.m. in the Library Multimedia Studio. After Sellers’ presentation, there will be a Vigil Ceremony from 4:45-5:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, December 5, there will be a HIV and AIDS Awareness table at the Student Health Fair in the Nestor Hall Lounge from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. And on Thursday, December 6, the Ohio Department of Public Health will offer HIV Testing from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in Nestor Hall Lounge.
Fee Waiver deadline is Jan. 2
The deadline for Employee/Dependent Fee Waivers for Spring Semester is January 2, 2013. A Request for Fee Waiver form must be turned into Human Resources by 4:30 p.m. to guarantee that fee waivers will be processed before late fees are assessed.
You may also pay your fees and then be reimbursed within 30 days from the start of the term by completing the Request for Fee Waiver form and submitting an official payment receipt to Human Resources by February 11, 2013. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Thompson or call ext. 2406.
