Dublin Site Coordinator does it all
Rachael Sanders
When Math professor Gary Rensi accidentally broke the glass top of an overhead projector at the Dublin Center, he panicked. But Site Coordinator Rachael Sanders came to his rescue, whisking the projector away while reassuring him that it would be promptly replaced.
“As a fulltime faculty member with an office at the downtown campus, I look forward to the quarters when I am able to teach at Dublin, because I know everything will be outstanding because of Rachel,” says Rensi.
“Rachael basically runs the Dublin Center during the day,” says Rensi. “From unlocking the doors in the morning, to addressing student questions and making sure faculty can perform their jobs—Rachael does it all!”
Sanders was named the Staff Employee of the Month for March Wednesday in a ceremony in
the Franklin Hall Boardroom.
“Rachael personifies a team player,” Rensi says. “She is always willing to help faculty and students. The main thing that impresses me about her is that she’s always pleasant to be around. She is also a very good listener!”
Quality Team Awards a “Go” for 2012!
The 3rd Annual Quality Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 25, recognizing the winners of the Distinguished Teaching Awards, the Distinguished Full Professor Awards (new last year), the Staff Employee of the Year, and the Continuous Quality Improvement Team Awards.
The event will honor teams and individuals from across the college whose work exemplifies continuous quality improvement—the kind of work that will lead to the college’s reaccreditation in 2013 by the Higher Learning Commission.
To nominate a team for a 2012 Quality Team Award, please read through the judging criteria, and then fill out the application and submit it by Friday, May 18 at 4:00 p.m.
A total of $8,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winning teams, with the Gold Award of $4,000 to be divided among members of the top team and two Silver Awards of $2,000 each being divided among the runner-up teams!
Mid-Year Discussion forms available in COOL, optional to complete
Mid-Year Discussion forms are now available in the COOL system. This year conducting a Mid-Year Discussion (MYD) in COOL is optional. Please discuss with your manager whether or not you will be completing these. Even for employees not completing MYDs in COOL, employees and managers are encouraged to discuss progress toward goals. If the manager chooses not to complete the MYD in COOL this year the system will close the document automatically on Friday, March 30.
In this document Employees and Supervisors are able to document progress toward the completion of work planned for the performance year. Additionally, the Planning Guide content will be able to be modified by the reviewing supervisor, if needed. New officers learn about campus law enforcement
Kellie Brennan, director of Student Conduct, presents at the annual Ohio School Resource Officers Association (OSROA) on the subjects of student conduct due process, behavior intervention, FERPA, and liability.
The meeting, "Understanding the Transition into Campus Law Enforcement," was hosted by the Columbus State Department of Public Safety.
New security and campus police officers from around the state were given a foundation in law and academic structure to enhance their knowledge of higher education. Columbus State played a lead role in developing the course three years ago, in collaboration with OSROA. John Nestor, Director of Public Safety, Chief Sean Asbury, and Jeff Spain, Workforce Development, also presented, along with speakers from Ohio State, University of Toledo, University of Akron, and Cincinnati State.

CCI students present at annual Workshop in New Orleans

Community College Initiative (CCI) students and Project Coordinator Vanessa Kumar recently presented at the Community Colleges for International Development (CCID) Annual Workshop, held February 24-27 in New Orleans.
The group detailed Columbus State's current Global Leadership Program and students each reflected on a specific component of the program that made the most significant impact on their learning. They talked about the ways in which they might translate their experiences into positive transformation in their home countries. “It was a powerful and moving testimony to the program,” said Kumar. The trip was followed by two days of leadership activities and tours including a Hurricane Katrina Rebirth tour and visits to local historic plantations.
Concert Band performs at King Arts Center
The Columbus State Concert Band, directed by Thomas Lloyd, performed their Winter Quarter Concert at the King Arts Center March 6, featuring guest artist Everett Jones on piano. The Columbus State Jazz Ensemble also performed.
