Testing Center employee calms nerves, enforces rules
Marhsa GarrettIf anyone could be called a “Social Butterfly” and “The Sheriff” in the same sentence, it would be Marsha Garrett. With a permanent smile and vivacious personality, the Testing Center Specialist is able to relax and calm students who are nervous about their exams, while simultaneously keeping an eagle eye out for any type of test-taking misbehavior. Her balanced approach to her job earned her the February Staff Employee of the Month Award last week.
“Marsha is the Sheriff of the Testing Center because anytime she walks the floor and has a feeling that something is not right, she always finds someone doing something they aren’t supposed to,” said Aisha McGrapth, Enrollment Services, who nominated Garrett for the award. “Marsha took the task of working with Kellie Brennan, Student Conduct director, to work with any student who has been caught cheating or otherwise being disruptive in the Testing Center before that student is allowed to return.”
“One of Marsha’s other responsibilities is processing make-up exams submitted by faculty,” said McGrapth. “She created a new quarterly report that tracks how many makeup exams are submitted, which departments submitted them, and how many are taken. She then works with instructors to make sure the process runs smoothly.”
“Marsha has added to both the service and the atmosphere in the Testing Center,” said supervisor Michelle Teasley. “Her personality is magnetic and she reminds us all to serve the students and the faculty with a smile!”
