And the winners are…!
President David Harrison addresses the crowd at the first annual Quality Improvement Awards luncheon held July 27 in the Conference Center ballroom.
The recipients of the 2010 Distinguished Teaching Awards and Employees of the Month were recognized, and awards were announced for Distinguished Full Professors and CQI Teams. Full professors selected for the award were Steve Abbott, English, Greg Goodhart, Mathematics, and Jackie Miller, Nursing.
The first Silver Team Award went to the Developmental Education Block Program (team members Tywan Banks, Tracy Koski, Sue Hargrove and Pat Rowe), for their work helping at-risk students acclimate to college. The second Silver Team Award went to the Cost Instructional Model Team (members Aletha Shipley, Jaimie Allen, Michele Arnold, Jan Ellis, Laurie Johns, Karen Riley and Don White), for their work keeping costs in line while Columbus State moves from a quarter-based year into semesters. The Gold Team Award went to the Math Summer Bridge Initiative (team members Kelly Hogan, Tywan Banks, Beth Barnett, Jessica Lickeri, Brenna Michelis and Kathy Struve), for their intensive program for students in Dev Ed 031, Math 102 and Math 103—moving them successfully into Math 104! Hay to attend Aspen Institute Academy
Cheryl Hay, administrator in Business and Industry Training, has been selected to attend The Sector Skills Academy as one of 25 workforce development leaders in the seventh class of Marano Fellows. The Academy, jointly operated by the Aspen Institute's Workforce Strategies Initiative and Public/Private Ventures, provides emerging leaders in the workforce development field with a unique professional development opportunity.
This group of fellows represents state and local public agencies, community-based nonprofits, and community colleges and is helping prepare unemployed and under-employed individuals for jobs in a wide range of sectors, including health care, hospitality, manufacturing, renewable energy and energy efficiency, construction and logistics. Hay will represent the logistics field.
Over a 12-month period, they will participate in peer and classroom learning, site visits, and workshops, during which they will be encouraged to acquire new skills, engage in experiential learning, connect with peers, and build relationships with mentors and leaders. Academy faculty and mentors are drawn from experienced leaders in the field of employment development. Participants are expected to apply the lessons of the Academy to enhance their work in their chosen sector.
HPC scheduling for Fall Quarter starting
The Human Performance Center (HPC) will begin scheduling for Autumn Quarter 2011 personal training on Monday, August 8, (continuing clients only) beginning at 6 a.m., in person only at the HPC. (Scheduling office is closed between noon and 2 p.m. Mon.-Thurs.).
All scheduling will be done only through Mandi Cecil, HPC coordinator. Due to high demand, scheduling requests via email and/or voicemail cannot be accepted.
Scheduling will start at 6 a.m. Monday for those who have completed a quarterly fitness assessment during Summer Quarter. New clients may schedule beginning August 15.
You must sign the client/trainer agreement before you will be put in the schedule book. Payment for personal training is taken through the Cashier’s Office (Rhodes Hall, 2nd Floor).
When you schedule, you will receive a statement to take with you to the Cashier’s Office to pay, including any credits that are due.
You must pay within 48 hours of scheduling to hold your spot. If your statement has not been paid within 48 hours of scheduling, you will be removed from the HPC schedule. It will be your responsibility to reschedule yourself.

Financial Wellness session on identity theft offered Aug. 3
Michelle Weadock, Business Development Director of Education First Credit Union, will offer a presentation on avoiding identity theft on Wednesday, August 3, from12:00-1:00 p.m. in CT Room 107. The session will also be broadcast to the Delaware Campus in DA Room 129. You can receive points toward the Wellness Challenge and Wellness Incentive for attending.
