COMPASS Placement test

·         Inform the COMPASS Lab attendant that you are testing for PSEO

·         PSEO students need to take the “PSEO COMPASS” test

·         List/Select “PSEO” as your Program of Study/Major

·         Students’ minimum placement results needed: English 101 or English 111, Math 103 and NO Reading Development Classes

Re-testing Information for COMPASS

Student's minimum placement results: English 101 or English 111, Math 103 and NO Reading Development Classes needed. If you are still interested in participating in the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program at Columbus State, you have three options available to you:

1.      You may re-take the entire test or you may simply re-take any portion of the test you need to meet the requirements. The chart  shows the sequence of courses for Communication Skills, Math and Reading. This chart may be helpful in evaluating where you placed in relationship to the PSEO admission requirements.

The fee for re-testing is $20.00, whether you retake a portion or the entire test. You must obtain a re-test form on Main Campus in Advising & Counseling Services, Aquinas Hall, Room 116. (Call 614 287 2668 for hours of operation.) After the form is complete, take it to the Cashier’s Office on the second level of Rhodes Hall to pay the re-test fee. You may only re-test once in each subject area each academic year. Retests are only given on Main Campus.

2.     If you placed in English 100, Developmental Reading 044, and/or Math 102, you may take any or all of these courses. Completion of these courses with a “C” or better and attending a mandatory PSEO Orientation will make you eligible for acceptance into the PSEO Program the following quarter.

Since you have not met the PSEO requirements, you are required to pay for theses course, plus lab fees, books and supplies. If you choose this Self Pay option, complete and print the forms you need from the website www.cscc.edu/USE and then return them to our office.

3.     Choose to be admitted to CSCC as a PSEO student with the following limitations: If the student does not meet the minimum in Mathematics, s/he may be admitted to PSEO and not take any classes that have Mathematics as a prerequisite. Conversely, if the student does not meet the minimum in Writing, s/he may not take any classes that have English as a prerequisite. All students must place out of Developmental Reading Courses. If you choose this option, please send e-mail to PSEO@cscc.edu indicating in which area you qualified and want to be admitted, Mathematics or English.

Please discuss these options with your parent/guardian and your high school guidance counselor/pathway teacher to determine which option would best meet your academic goals and needs.

Required Text Books and Supplies

Once the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program student returns his/her Course Request form and schedules for classes, his/her first and last name and student id number are sent to the bookstore. Then, the student is expected to go to the bookstore (Main Campus, Dublin, Westerville or Southeast Centers) and pickup their books.  (If picking up books at any location except Main Campus, you must call the Main Campus bookstore to "order" your books to be delivered to the site of your choice. You must identify yourself as a PSEO student for verification by the bookstore representative before any books will be delivered.) All textbooks are the property of Columbus State Community College and MUST BE RETURNED per PSEO directions by the PSEO student only at the end of the quarter DURING FINALS WEEK to the Main Campus bookstore location only.

·         The PSEO program only covers required texts for classes.

·       We do not cover supplies such as notebooks, paper, pen/pencils or computer discs, programs or calculators..

·       The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program does not replace stolen or lost books.

Ohio Residency

If the student has lived in the State of Ohio less than 1 year, you should still complete the five steps for PSEO. However, you need to contact a Residency Officer in Records and Registration in 201 Madison Hall  for more information. Records and Registration will need documentation per academic quarter from the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program student’s parent(s)/guardian(s).
