Admission

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before filling out the application, read the Admissions Guidelines to make sure you meet all the requirements for admission.

The applicant will:

1. Complete the COMPASS Placement Test.

2. Have an official transcript from all colleges previously attended sent to Columbus State Community College Records Office.

3. Make an appointment to see Health Advisor in Counseling and Advising Center (614-287-2668). Bring results of COMPASS Placement Test and unofficial copy of transcripts from all colleges previously attended.

4. Attend a Respiratory Care Information Session. Call Cheryl Trogus (614-287-2521) or email at ctrogus@cscc.edu to schedule.

5. Complete the following admission criteria courses with a C or better: BIO 100, CHEM 100, CHEM 113, MATH 103, RESP 102, NURC 101 .

6. Attain a TOTAL GPA of 2.5 or greater. We do NOT round GPA.

7. Schedule the NET test in the ACT Testing Center.

  • You will have one attempt per application year to complete the NET. The NET is a computerized, timed exam which evaluated academic and social skills in seven areas: essential math skills, reading comprehension for science textbooks, reading rate, test-taking skills, in addition to social interaction profile, stress level profile, and learning style. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the NET study guide to prepare for the test. The study guide is available at most public libraries, or for purchase in the CSCC Bookstore.
  • To schedule the NET, contact the ACT Learning and Testing Center (614-287-2281). The NET will cost $25.00 payable at the Cashier’s Office in Rhodes Hall. You must bring a picture ID on the day of the test and indicate that you are a RESPIRATORY CARE applicant. Your results will be mailed to you and you must provide the Respiratory Care Program with a copy of the results to be considered for admission. The testing center has a limited number of testing appointments so please, schedule early!

8. Submit online program application using the program website. Deadline is MARCH 31, 2008.

The program will begin the admission process beginning April 5. The following criteria will be used to determine acceptance to the program.

1. Review all applications for completeness. Any applicants who have not submitted a copy of their NET scores will be disqualified.

2. Review the current (through Spring 2008) transcripts of all applicants. Any applicant who does not have a C or better for required courses (or transfer credit recorded on their transcript) will be eliminated.

3. Review TOTAL GPA for all applicants. Any applicant whose TOTAL GPA is less than 2.5 will be disqualified.

4. Distribute points for TOTAL GPA as follows:

a. 4.0-3.5 4 points
b. 3.499-3.0 3 points
c. 2.99-2.50 2 points


5. Distribute points for NET score as follows:

a. 100-80 4 points
b. 79-60 3 points
c. 59-40 2 points
d. 39-20 1 point
e. Less 19 0 point


6. The following criteria will be applied to Basic Science courses. The course credit hours will be multiplied by the course grade which is then multiplied by 0.75.

7. The following criteria will be applied to General Education courses. The course credit hours will be multiplied by the course grade which is then multiplied by 0.25.

8. The following criteria will be applied to RESP courses. The course credit hours will be multiplied by the course grade which is then multiplied by 1.
