Event
The theme for Law Day 2005, held
May 2, 2005, was "To Win Equality by Law: People v. Price."
Eco-terrorism is suspected when a fire destroys
much of a ski resort that was planning to expand into neighboring wilderness
areas. An outspoken opponent of the expansion is arrested and charged
with arson. Will she be convicted?
At the conclusion of
the trial Columbus State President Valerie Moler introduced the keynote
speaker, The Honorable Harland Hale, Franklin County Municipal Court
Environmental Judge. Judge Hale shared his stellar career leading up to his
current position. He encouraged the paralegal students in their endeavor to
becoming paralegals and the middle school students to work hard and continue
their education.

The
Judge
The Honorable Jan Michael Long, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Pickaway
County, Ohio Juvenile/Probate Division, once again presided over the proceedings.
Judge Long's dedication and service has been a key factor in the success of
Law Day. |

Cast
SPA members filled the
roles of Prosecutor, Defense Attorney, Paralegals, Police Officers,
Defendant, and Witnesses.
Students visiting from area middle also
acted as jurors and the the court gallery. |
Law
Day History
In 1958, Charles S. Rhyne established the first Law Day to honor the rule of
law, showing respect for that which is the key to individual freedom and
justice.
President Eisenhower was the first
president to issue a Law Day Proclamation, which has since been issued by
every President. Law Day is a day where all those involved in the law
come together and celebrate our great heritage of liberty, justice and
equality under law. |
