ERC Proxy Server Instructions for Global Road Warrior

The ERC PROXY provides remote access to all the selected ERC and OhioLINK databases. It does so by routing your web pages through a machine on campus, so that the remote machine sees your request as coming from a Columbus State IP address. It does require some configuration of your Internet Explorer or Firefox web browser. This process will only need to be done once. Follow the steps below according to the type of internet connection on your computer.

Note: AOL users may experience difficulty with the ERC Proxy due to the nature of AOL network configuration.

Configure your Web Browser

Please remember to disable the proxy server when you have finished using the database. Failure to disable the proxy server might cause difficulty with other web applications.
Previous proxy users should note that the proxy URL has been changed as of February 2006.

Internet Explorer Version 5 or 6 for Windows

LAN/Cable Modem Connection (for example: Roadrunner)

1. Select Tools

2. Select Internet Options

3. Click the Connections tab

4. Click the LAN Settings button

5. Make sure that the checkbox labeled Automatically detect settings is not checked

6. Check the Use automatic configuration script

7. For the Address, enter http://ercproxy.cscc.edu/ercsearch.pac

8. Click on OK then OK again on the Internet Options menu

Dial-In Modem Connection

1. Select Tools

2. Select Internet Options

3. Click the Connections tab

4. In the Dial-up Settings section, select Settings button

5. Check the Use automatic configuration script

6. For the Address, enter http://ercproxy.cscc.edu/ercsearch.pac

8. Click on OK then OK again on the Internet Options menu

Mozilla Firefox Version 1.5

1. Select Tools

2. Select Options

3. Select the General tab

4. Select the Connection Settings button

5. Select the radio button for Automatic proxy configuration URL

6. For the Address, enter http://ercproxy.cscc.edu/ercsearch.pac

7. Select the Reload button

8. Click on OK then OK again on the Internet Options menu

Mozilla Firefox Version Version 2.0.0.1

1. Select Tools

2. Select Options

3. Select the Advanced tab

4. Select the Network tab

5. Select the Settings button

6. Select the radio button for Automatic proxy configuration URL

7. For the Address, enter http://ercproxy.cscc.edu/ercsearch.pac

8. Select the Reload button

9. Click on OK then OK again on the Network Options menu

Login

Follow the instructions below as you login to the ERC Proxy Server for access to Global Road Warrior.

You will be prompted for a user name and password (see dialog box below). Enter your Columbus State user name and the last 4 digits of your social security number as a password. (Students may look-up their user name at http://password.cscc.edu. Faculty and staff should telephone IT Support at 614-287-5050 for this information. )

Click OK and you will then get connected to the subscription database (you may be prompted twice to enter your information). As long as your proxy server session remains active, you may continue to access different subscription databases without having to login again.

Note: If your proxy server session is idle for more than 30 minutes, then you will automatically be logged off from the proxy server. If this happens, you will be prompted to login again when you attempt to access an ERC or OhioLINK database.

Disable the Proxy Server

When you no longer want to use the ERC’s research databases, or are no longer taking classes at Columbus State Community College, disable the proxy server simply by removing the URL <http://ercproxy.cscc.edu/ercsearch.pac> from your web browser that had been added during the configuration steps above.
