Travel/Tourism/Hotel Management Major Description

Hospitality Management provides quality-learning experiences to enhance initial employment opportunities and to improve technical and supervisory skills for career advancement in food service, lodging and tourism. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Hospitality Management Programs (CAHM). The major in Travel/Tourism/Hotel Management leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree. If a student plans to attend college on a full-time basis, the program may be completed in two years. Day and evening classes are available.

Completion of the Travel / Tourism / Hotel Management major prepares students for a wide variety of positions in one of the largest and rapidly growing industries in the world. Positions in this segment of the hospitality/tourism industry include hotels, resorts, travel agencies, cruise lines, convention and visitor’s bureaus, airlines, tour operations, attractions and entertainment. Preparation for such careers is accomplished through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and required industry work experiences. The curriculum includes courses in customer service, travel and tourism operations, lodging operations, meeting planning and catering services, computer systems, business management, marketing, human relations and communication skills.

It is strongly recommended that scheduling for classes be completed with the assistance of an academic advisor in Hospitality Management.
