Dietary Manager Certificate

The Dietary Manager Certificate Program is a three Quarter (nine months) program designed to train people who are currently employed full time in the dietary department of a healthcare facility and who are current or potential foodservice supervisors. The program has been approved by the Dietary Managers Association.

Each of three quarters during the school year, the student will enroll in a one afternoon a week seminar course and a cooperative work experience course. The seminar course is taught on Columbus State central campus and is designed to teach the theory and information needed to prepare the student to become an effective supervisor. The cooperative work experience course allows the student to apply the theory and knowledge gained from the classroom to his/her place of employment.

The work experience portion of the program must take place under the guidance of a licensed, registered dietitian, a dietetic technician registered and/or a certified dietary manager who have at least one year of post registration, full time equivalent employment in a practitioner role. The credentialed person must directly supervise at least 50 hours of the coordinated work experience time. In addition, before completing the program the student will need to have passed the national examination for the ServeSafe course. The course work will give 18 quarter hours of college credit; the majority of it is transferable to the Dietetic Technician Associate Degree program of study at CSCC should the student choose to continue his/her education.

A Supplemental Application to the program is required.

Baking Certificate
The Baking Certificate Program will prepare a student to assist in the preparation and production of pies, cookies, cakes, breads, rolls, desserts and other baked goods in a variety of baking environments including independent and in-store bakeries as well as large commercial bakeries, restaurants and hotels. Duties may include stocking ingredients, preparing and cleaning equipment, measuring ingredients, mixing, scaling, forming, proofing, oven tending, product finishing and presentation.
Course enrollment for this program must be completed with the assistance of an academic advisor in Hospitality Management. The advisor for this Certificate program is Karen Krimmer. Meeting and Event Planning Certificate
 
The Meeting and Event Management Certificate is designed to prepare students to assume positions in meeting and event planning in conference centers, hotels, or large corporations. The certificate includes seven required courses. Upon successful completion of these courses, student could apply them to the Travel/Tourism/Hotel Management major to complete a degree in Hospitality Management.

School Food Service Manager Certificate
The School Food Service Manager Certificate is a four Quarter (1 year) program designed to train people who are currently employed in school food service, and who are current or potential food service supervisors. The program meets the requirements of the education component of the School Nutrition Association (SNA) Level 3 certification.

Students will attend a one afternoon a week seminar course. The seminar course is taught on the Columbus State central campus, and is designed to teach the theory and information needed to prepare the student to become an effective supervisor. Outside classroom homework assignments allow the student to apply the theory and knowledge gained from the classroom to his/her place of employment.

The coursework will give 14 quarter hours of college credit. Coursework completed for the School Food Service Manager Certificate will be evaluated on an individual basis for transfer to the Dietetic Technician Associate Degree program at Columbus State Community College should the student choose to continue his/her education.
