Prerequisites

1. ACADEMIC STANDARDS

The following is a list of courses required for admission to this 3 quarter program.
These prerequisites must be met prior to the beginning of the program. If you have taken a comparable course at another accredited institution, submit official transcripts for evaluation so that these may be applied to your Columbus State Community College transcript.

MULT 101: Medical Terminology
MATH 102: Beginning Algebra I
CHEM 113: Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry
BIO 261: Human Anatomy
Placement into ENGL 101 (You must demonstrate credit for ENGL 100 or your placement test results must show placement into ENGL 101.)
2.5 GPA

Note: If you are receiving credit and transferring from another college, it is your responsibility to verify the transferability of the appropriate course. To determine  course transferability, go to https://www.transfer.org/uselect/ and select either 'Equivalencies by School' or 'Equivalencies by Course' and follow the steps to determine if your course is equivalent and transferable to CSCC.

2. NON-ACADEMIC STANDARDS

  • Health Record: Completion of a current health record. This includes, among other things, current immunization for HBV. This is required before you may register for any Histology Clinical courses. Contact the health records office for the most current requirements at 614-287-2450.
  • Essential Functions: You must be able to meet the following additional criteria related to vision, speech, hearing, fine motor, and psychological skills
  • Background check: Clinical facilities require that a background investigation be completed before students are placed for a clinical experience. Contact the Public Safety department at 614-287-2525 for information on this.
  • Demonstration of a shadowing experience. The form is found with the Program Application.
  • 2 acceptable recommendations (see “Application”)

  • Completion of Blackboard Orientation (see application for details)

3. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

You must be able to meet the following:

Vision

Read charts, labels, graphs, materials with the aid of a microscope; discriminate colors, and record results

Speech and Hearing 
Communicate effectively using standard English, and assess non-verbal information

Fine Motor Skills
Skills necessary to operate instruments including a microtome, and manipulate tools

Psychological Skills
Possess the emotional health required to utilize full intellectual abilities.
Recognition of emergency situations and take appropriate actions
