Courses

For each content area, there are 2 components. Each component is a separate course. These 2 components are identified as “clinical” and “lecture”.

"CLINICAL": These courses take place in a clinical setting. You will spend the identified number of hours learning the skills related to each of the content areas.

“LECTURE”: These courses take place online. CSCC uses Blackboard™ as its online learning platform. You will be required to participate in activities such as: reading, following PowerPoint presentations, accessing other websites to complete activities, observation of videos provided by the instructor, examination of cells from other websites, participating in “discussion board” activities with other students. These activities will be designed primarily to be asynchronous. That is, you will not be required to be online at a specified time of day or day of week. You will need reliable internet access for this component. See “
Online Learning” for more information.

MULT 150: Histologic techniques (lecture)
This course provides an examination of all of the procedures that take place at the beginning of preparing a tissue sample for examination by the pathologist. These procedures include embedding techniques, tissue fixation, principles of microtomy and tissue processing.

MULT 151: Histologic techniques clinical - 15 clinical hours
In this course, the student will apply the theory of the basic histologic techniques examined in MULT 150 in an authentic clinical setting.

MULT 152: tissue identification (lecture)
The structure and identification of tissue systems is emphasized at a cellular level. The student will develop skills that will assist them in identification of different tissue sources. Subsequently, the tissue source will be correlated with tissue function.

MULT 149: tissue identification clinical – 5 clinical hours
In this course, the student will apply the concepts of tissue identification in an authentic clinical setting, working with tissue specimens.

MULT 154: chemistry of stains I (lecture)
This course addresses the fundamentals and clinical significance of routine and special histological staining.

MULT 155: chemistry of stains I clinical – 15 clinical hours
In this course, students will apply the concepts from MULT 154 in an authentic clinical setting.

MULT 156: chemistry of stains II (lecture)
This course is a continuation of MULT 154 and will include special histology staining procedures including immunohistochemistry, and basic and advanced troubleshooting techniques.

MULT 157: chemistry of stains II clinical – 15 clinical hours
In this course, students will apply the concepts from MULT 156 in an authentic clinical setting.
