Emergency Medical Services

The first course a student needs to complete is EMS 110, or Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B). The pre-requisites for this course can be found on the EMT-Basic page. This course is traditionally held each quarter, and we have a morning, afternoon and evening class. The course fills up quickly, and registration begins on the first day of registration for the college. You must have a completed health record accepted by the student health office prior to registration and you must either place into English 100 or above or have already taken an equivalent college level course. You do not have to take English 100, only place at that level. If you are a current Ohio certified EMT, you do not need to take EMS 110. Once these two steps are completed, you may register for the class. No signatures are required for any of the EMS classes.

After successfully completing EMS 110 and passing the EMT-Basic certification examinations, you may then take the other EMS courses that begin with 1 (ie. EMS 111, EMS 123).

There is a special application process to gain entrance into the EMT-Paramedic program, and you must be an  Ohio EMT-Basic prior to starting that process.  Enrolling in the EMS Associate Degree does not guarantee admission into the EMT-Paramedic program, however Associate Degree classes can help you in being accepted into the program. The EMT-Paramedic program starts twice a year. In the Winter, day classes are offered. Night classes are offered starting in the Summer Quarter. The EMT-Paramedic program is one-year in length. Further requirements and details can be found on the EMT-Paramedic page.
