Mathematics Department Mission
Statement
The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to provide
lifelong community access to a dynamic curriculum that emphasizes mathematical
concepts, communication and applications through a commitment to sound pedagogy.
In a mathematically dependent society the department will strive to anticipate
and meet the evolving needs of our students, our faculty, our college and our
community.
Student-Centered Goals:
- To provide a learner-centered environment that addresses
the diverse needs of our learning community.
- To enhance learning opportunities through effective and
appropriate use of technology.
- To provide appropriate courses and services on a flexible
scheduling basis to meet the needs and requirements of our associate degree,
developmental, career and technology, transfer and high school students, other
departments within Columbus State Community College and other
colleges/universities.
Faculty-Centered Goals:
- To encourage an understanding and appreciation of
diversity in the teaching styles among our faculty.
- To support and encourage communication among all faculty
to create a unified learning community.
- To provide opportunities for faculty enrichment and
support through mentoring, training and collaboration.
Division/College/Community Goals:
- To encourage collaborative efforts with other departments
and divisions within the college.
- To provide academic integrity and to support Columbus
State Community College and its mission.
