INTERNSHIP ( Practicum) Seminars   Internships Responsibility

Lawrence Stephens lstephens@cscc.edu and Thomas Shanahan are the two instructors who supervise the students in the Practicum/Internship classes.

a. Students may enroll in Practicum courses only with the permission of the Instructors or department chairperson.  No student will be placed in a Practicum until he/she has attained second year status.

b. Students are encouraged to locate their own Practicum placement.  When the student, after exercising due diligence, cannot locate a Practicum site the department will provide assistance.

c. Attendance - Students are expected to be prompt and to attend the Practicum placement for all the designated hours.  It is the student's responsibility to notify the Practicum site, their Practicum supervisor and their seminar instructor if an absence is absolutely necessary.  Make up hours must be arranged with the Practicum supervisor.  Excessive absences from a Practicum will result in an unsatisfactory evaluation.

d. Appearance - Students participating in Practicums are assigned in a professional legal office and are expected to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.  Standards may vary from office to office, but the student is always a representative of Columbus State and the Justice and Safety Programs and is therefore expected to exhibit high standards in grooming and appearance.
