Basic Communication Skills This course combines elements of the writing process with the basic principles of writing clear, coherent, and well-developed paragraphs and short essays. Students will review rules of grammar usage and punctuation. Critical thinking skills will be developed through reading, class discussion, and journal writing. Principles of Writing In this writing-intensive course, students will build on the composing, revising and editing strategies introduced in DEV 041. Through a review of individual DEV 041 writing portfolios, students' needs will be determined and instruction will address these needs. Students in this course will develop critical thinking skills through analyses of student and professional writing and by writing journals, essays, and responses to readings. Critical Reading and Thinking Critical Reading and Thinking is designed to help students develop higher-order thinking skills needed for academic study and career success.
