General Education Requirements
Capital University's General Education Requirements are designated as the University Core. The Core Curriculum consists of 12 courses (36 Semester hours) that are required of all students regardless of school, although some Core courses are waived for students taking a heavy concentration of courses in the subject matter covered in a Core course. These exceptions are indicated in the Capital University Undergraduate Bulletin.
The interdisciplinary approach of the Capital University Core Curriculum is similar to that of the Columbus State Core. Through agreement with the Capital University faculty, Columbus State Associate of Arts and Associate of Science graduates who have followed Columbus State's Core curriculum and the elective courses will have fulfilled eight of the twelve Capital Core requirements. The exceptions are Lifetime Health, Religious Foundations and the Bible, Global Issues, and Ethical Thought. However, through HECC Cross Registration, Columbus State students may take these courses at Capital and have them applied to Columbus State degree requirements as electives.
Selection of Mathematics and Natural Science courses should be made according to intended major at Capital. Additional major requirements may be fulfilled by matching the requirements found in the Capital University Undergraduate Bulletin with equivalent Columbus State courses as listed in the Columbus State/Capital University Course Equivalency Guide.
